«We have always believed in the potential of the Russian automotive industry, so the result of 200,000 locally produced engines is yet another confirmation of our intentions to develop production processes in Russia. The plant’s capacities make it possible to supply Volkswagen and Skoda models manufactured in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod. Thus, we not only offer consumers a high-quality product, but also support the local industry by active cooperation with Russian suppliers,» said Dr. Oliver Grünberg, Technical Director of the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga.

The petrol engine is produced in two variants of capacities (90 hp and 110 hp) and is installed on five models of the Group — Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Jetta, Škoda Rapid, Škoda Octavia and Škoda Yeti.

The EA211 1.6 MPI engine is the embodiment of the Group’s most advanced engine-building technologies. Operations performed during the production of the internal combustion engine include mechanical processing of the cylinder block, processing of the combustion head, crankshaft processing and assembly of the entire engine. The whole process is completed with a «hot test» aimed at checking all the engine’s functions: starting, idling, working at all load levels and checking electrical, fuel, oil and cooling systems, as well as valve train, power and torsion torque. The engine fully complies with the Euro-5 environmental standard and can be installed in cars built on the MQB modular platform.

Volkswagen Group Rus actively expands the base of local suppliers, which makes it possible to raise the level of production localization and contribute to the development of the Russian automotive industry.
