Moscow, December 25, 2018 — Volkswagen Group Rus has announced production results for 2018: 143,500 vehicles left the production line of the plant in Kaluga, 56,500 vehicles — in Nizhny Novgorod. Thus, a total of 200,000 cars were produced, which is 19,4% more than in 2017 (vs. 167,500 cars). It signifies a new production milestone for the company. Volkswagen Group Rus engine plant in Kaluga has set a record as well: its production in 2018 increased by 57% up to 161,000 engines (103,000 engines in 2017).

The record production volumes in 2018 were achieved thanks both to the growing demand on the local market and to significant level of efficiency, confirmed by the “Transformer of the Year” award, which Kaluga plant received for the best performance among Volkswagen’s plants across the globe. The export of vehicles and engines also helped utilize the production facilities: total export volume to the European and CIS countries reached 20,000 vehicles. During 2018, 44,000 1.6 MPI gasoline engines have been supplied to different locations worldwide, including production sites in Spain and Czech Republic.

“Reaching the mark of 200,000 cars produced in one year is an important indicator for Volkswagen Group Rus, reflecting high demand for cars of our brands among customers and efficiency of the local manufacturing organization. Exceeding the capacity of the engine plant, a quarter of whose products were sent abroad in 2018, proves that Russian production can be highly-demanded and competitive around the world”, noted Marcus Osegowitsch, General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus.

“The whole Volkswagen Group Rus team stands behind these records, and I thank everyone engaged in our business for scrupulous work and commitment to victories. We are proud for our production results and for the level of efficiency which we managed to reach,” said Oliver Grünberg, Technical Director of Volkswagen Group Rus.
